Free Pop-Up Blocker - Get it now --0-720202366-1071520759=:28482-- From kdancing4fun@yahoo.com Sun Dec 28 15:25:55 2003 From: kdancing4fun@yahoo.com (w, kristin) Date: Sun, 28 Dec 2003 07:25:55 -0800 (PST) Subject: [Sng-matthews] health issue Message-ID: <20031228152555.90297.qmail@web12603.mail.yahoo.com> From: Friends for a Non-Violent World To: Undisclosed-Recipient:; Sent: Saturday, December 27, 2003 10:09 AM Subject: *Important* Radioactive Waste Weapons in MN Dear Friends, This is a special, important announcement to you, because you live in or near Arden Hills, Minnesota. Alliant Techsystems in Edina is the world's largest manufacturer of weapons made from the radioactive, nuclear waste, Uranium-238, otherwise known as depleted uranium, or DU. They are believed to have manufactured up to 16 million bullets and artillery shells with radioactive core centers (the skeleton inside the shells, like the bones inside your finger). What you may not know, and should as residents in or near Arden Hills, is that Alliant Techsystems Corporation recieved 5 tons of transported nuclear waste from the Department of Energy every year, and that it machined the raw waste into munitions right there in Arden Hills, releasing radioactive dust into the air, water and soil. And it has never been called to give full accounting of its actions. No safety studies have been done or published. No environmental imact studies conducted. A small group of Arden Hills citizens has been working with the army concerning the Arden Hills site where the ammunition was made (known as TCAAP). Included is a doctor, Christine Ziebold, who has been pushing for accountability. Despite strong resistance, she has succeeded in winning public hearings. However, to prevent as many citizens from attending as possible, the chair of the citizens commission (who is in sympathy with Alliant Techsystems and the Army) has sheduled back-to-back meetings on Janurary 5th and 6th. On January 5th, a special EPA agent will be flown in from DC to talk about what is standard procedure for handling nuclear waste materials. This meeting is crucial to interrupt and ask as many questions as possible to understand whether Alliant Tech or the Army is in violation regarding its handling and machining of nuclear waste in Arden Hills. On January 6th, the citizens' board will discuss the handling of Arden Hills contamination in light of the revelations from the previous meeting. We need you to show your citizens' concern and to ask the tough questions at both meetings. They will ignore our fears, downplay the dangers and re-direct attention unless they see citizens and residents standing up and demanding answers. We at FNVW will host a training to prepare you for these meetings this coming Tuesday, December 30th, at 7pm, at our office at 1050 Selby Ave. PLEASE COME! Pass this important alert on to friends and neighbors. This opportunity to hold one of the most lethal and indiscriminately destructive arms manufacturer in the world accountable for its pollution in our backyard. If you have any questions, please reply as soon as possible to this e-mail. Sincerely in peace and strength, Phil Steger FNVW Executive Director __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
