NOMINATE TOPICS FOR THE WHAT WORKS CLEARINGHOUSE
The What Works Clearinghouse (WWC), a project of the U.S. Department of
Education's Institute of Education Sciences, was established to provide
educators, policymakers, and the public with a central, independent, and
trusted source of scientific evidence of what works in education. The
WWC
is currently developing an agenda for the education topic areas,
interventions, and general approaches it will review in the coming year
as
well as looking ahead for those to review in the future and is seeking
input from the education community about the areas it should consider.
More detailed information about the process for submitting suggestions
can
be found at http://w-w-c.org/topicnom.html. You can also sign up for

TECHNOLOGY AND THE DIGITAL MILLENNIUM COPYRIGHT ACT
The U.S. Copyright Office has published the comments it received in
response to its inquiry concerning sections of the 1998 Digital
Millennium
Copyright Act. The agency solicited comments as part of a rulemaking on
exemptions from prohibition on circumvention of technological measures
that control access to copyrighted works. Wired News
(http://www.wired.com/news/business/0,1367,56963,00.html) reports that
respondents, overwhelmingly favored carving out exceptions to the DMCA
for
certain uses of music files, text and video technologies. Many based
their
arguments upon the legal principle of fair use, which allows copying of
snippets of copyrighted works for research, teaching or other purposes.
The comments can be found at
http://www.copyright.gov/1201/2003/comments/index.html
