NOMINATIONS OPEN FOR ADOPTION AWARDS
(Feb. 16, 2004) Nominations are now being accepted for awards to be
presented at the next national adoption conference, Oct. 14-16, 2004
in Saint John, New Brunswick. See the "Building Lifelong Connections"
conference web site at www.lifelongconnections.ca.
The Canadian National Adoption Awards will be presented to those who
have made a significant impact in the adoption constellation.
Send nominations no later than May 15, 2004 to: Adoption Council of
Canada, 210-211 Bronson Ave., Ottawa (ON) K1R 6H5, 1-888-54-ADOPT,
acc at adoption.ca. Include the award category, contact information of
the person/organization submitting the nomination, nominee's contact
information and a one-page outline of why the nominee deserves the
award.
The categories are:
* H. David Kirk Award -- For excellence in research and/or
teaching in adoption and outstanding contribution to our
understanding of adoption kinship.
* Victoria Leach Award -- For lengthy and outstanding services
to adptive families and the adoption community.
* Helen Allen Award -- For exemplary promotion of adoption, and
advocacy for children who wait for families here and abroad.
* Joy McPhail Award -- For persons making an outstanding
contribution in the area of legislative reform .
* Adoption Activist Awards -- Presented to adopted persons,
adoptive parents, adoption professionals, birth parents, media
persons, public officials and/or members of the public who have had
significant positive impact on adoption in any part of Canada.
Based on the theme "Building Lifelong Connections: Permanency Options
for Children and Families", the 2004 conference supports the belief
that every child deserves a permanent family and promotes awareness
of adoption and other permanency options.
The Saint John conference is sponsored by the Adoption Council of
Canada, New Brunswick's Ministry of Family and Community Services and
the New Brunswick Adoption Foundation.
