Hi,
I was wondering if some of you can share the details = about=20 your or your partner's parental leaves following the adoption of your=20 child(ren).  My husband and I will be adopting a baby = internationally=20 within the next month or two and I found out that my employer's parental = leave=20 is very different from maternity leave.  In addition to the issue = of time=20 (which I can't do anything about as it is mandated by the government at = 37 wks),=20 pay is also an issue.

For example, my employer will top up a colleague's = EI so that=20 she makes 90% of her salary for the first 2 wks of leave.  Her EI = is also=20 topped up for the following 15 wks, so she makes 70% of her = salary.  The=20 remainder of her leave is only EI.  As a soon-to-be adoptive = parent, I am=20 only eligible for EI payments for the duration of my leave.

I feel that this is discriminatory -- as does the HR = director=20 and my boss.  But because nobody contested this policy in the past = (and=20 because at his previous jobs, the HR director never dealt w/a co. that = topped up=20 maternity leave), I am looking to others to share their experience -- = preferably=20 those with companies that topped up salaries for women who gave=20 birth.

Many thanks in advance.
