The new year is upon us and so is our ebase Users Group meeting is this Thursday. A sign of the times - Intermedia Arts has to close its doors for a while. So we will meet at the cafe across and down Lyndale from Intermedia Arts, as we did in November. Please bring your questions and the group will bring our great collective to bear on them! Hope you all had pleasant and peaceful holidays, Beth and Barry ------------------------ Beth Hynes 612-724-8701 TTh, 651-726-2457 MWF (day job) Barry Madore 651-235-5805 (cell) ------------------------ "I would love to change the world, but they won't give me the source code." ----------------- Beth Hynes Database Administrator Parks & Trails Council of MN 651-726-2457 ----------------------- This e-mail and any files transmitted with it are intended solely for the individual or entity to whom they are addressed. I just spoke (virtually) with Intermedia. It will be difficult for us to count on using that room on a regular basis. I think we should talk about having the meeting permanently move location (if not date/ time). One suggestion: Common Roots (down the street at 26th and Lyndale) has a meeting room that I think we'd be able to reserve on a regular basis. Also, if you have not yet heard about Intermedia Arts' situation, check out their website: http://www.intermediaarts.org. If you have appreciated having Intermedia Arts allow us to use their classroom for free these past few years, it would be wonderful gesture to have your organization make a one-time donation to Intermedia. They could really use the support right now. Thanks. See you tomorrow. -barry On Jan 5, 2009, at 11:59 AM, Beth Hynes wrote: > Hello all! > > The new year is upon us and so is our ebase Users Group meeting is > this Thursday. Its under Reports>Fundraising>Member Giving YTD. You have a couple of ways of selecting the group. It makes a report to print (rather than exports) but that will be sufficient for many purposes. Here's the explanation: "Report of member giving in the past year. Gives totals for both member payments and all payments for all selected donors; includes totals for the current year-to-date, last year, and overall." Hope this is useful! It is difficult to know what may have happened with the force quit. The real concern is with the data files (log. 200, contacts.200, contactlocation.200, etc.). If the database was in the process of doing something with your data files at the time of the crash (a find, a report, adding info, etc.), the data could be damaged and cause data integrity problems moving forward-- problems you may not even recognize until it's too late. So, if you haven't done a ton of work on the database since your last backup, that's the way to go. If you have done a ton of work, it may make sense for you to run the recover process and see if you can get ebase back up and running with the current files. I'd wouldn't advise you to use the database permanently after doing so. If you are able to get it running using FileMaker's recovery process, I'd advise you to use the database mostly to do some queries to retrieve data you have added/changed in the last month to help you re-construct these changes in your backup. And, I'd advise more frequent backups. I'm a big believer in the at- least once a day backup. This would eliminate future recurrence of the stress you are now facing... -barry On Jan 26, 2009, at 1:13 PM, Adrienne Dorn wrote: > > > > Can anyone help me with this? > > Someone was working in ebase when it froze.
