Thanks to all who attended the Rural Summit planning mtg at St. John's University last week. It was cold outside but warm and cheery in the meeting. We had a substantial discussion about the general session topics and the need to ensure we incorporate perspectives based on the diverse array of culture and race that Minnesota is becoming. We also took a tour of the campus facilities we will be using for the Summit. We'll be setting up a follow-up mtg of the General Session planning committee between now and the next Summit planning mtg. Between now and the next meeting, please send me names, contact info and ideas for the 20-minute Learning Stations --- to be called Connections Stations this year. They will run on Thursday afternoon of the Summit. These can be presenters on housing, health care, land use, agriculture, business & economic development, education, transportation, vital aging, etc (I know I am forgetting some things.....). We'll fill the pot with ideas and see how we can boil down to the best 30 presentations for the Connection Stations. Also be thinking about who might be good facilitators for the Friday morning focus and ideas sessions -- where we try to come back to the wrap-up session with some suggestions for how we can keep connecting the dots across disciplines, sectors, and geography. I will write up more substantial notes later and get them to you but wanted to remind you that our next planning meeting is WEDNESDAY, MARCH 16, from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the offices of the Institute for Agriculture & Trade Policy in Minneapolis (www.iatp.org). Thanks to Beth Munnich of Renewing the Countryside for setting this one up. We're all set to meet in the IATP conference room in the IATP building on Stevens Avenue, at 2104 Stevens Ave (the directions are soon to be available at the Summit Planning website at http://www.minnesotaruralpartners.org/2005_summit/planning/ ) Please bring your own lunch. (we're on the cost savings plan this year....) FUTURE MTGS -- APRIL - Alex Weego is checking out space for April's mtg - to be held Weds, April 20 from 10:30 to 1:30 -- either in Little Falls at the Initiative Foundation or in Browerville at the Community Center. JUNE - David Fluegel has confirmed that we can hold our June mtg at the tail end of the Small Town Symposium in Morris -- on Wednesday, June 8 from 1:30 - 4:30 p.m. at the LaFave House on College Ave 1/2 block from the UMM main entrance. David says this is a beautifully renovated home that was donated to UMM. Great for groups of 25 or less for meeting/relaxing. MAY - Anyone wanting to host for May? If so, let me know and we have it all covered before July's Summit! --jane Jane Leonard President, Minnesota Rural Partners, Inc. 1533 Grantham St. St. Paul, MN 55108 phone 651-645-9403 fax 651-646-3818 wireless 651-303-5263 jleonard@minnesotaruralpartners.org www.minnesotaruralpartners.org SIGN UP FOR BIZPATHWAYS!
