1. Tis the Season for IRS Form 990s
Nonprofit organizations with a fiscal year ending December 31, 2005 and
annual total revenues exceeding $25,000 are required to file their
annual 990 Federal Tax Return by May 15, 2006.

3. Board Chair Training April 19
Due to popular demand, MAP has scheduled an extra Board Chair Training
session for Wednesday, April 19, from 4-8:30 p.m. at MAP. For the new or
more experienced board chair - learn how to maximize the relationship
between the board and staff, run a meeting that nets results, provide
fundraising leadership, and handle conflicts and more. Taught by Doris
Pagelkopf, this session gets rave reviews, and is affordable, at $75 per

4. Respected Community Experts Join MAP staff
Rick Menk, Accountant
Rick Menk's work experience includes 11 years of accounting in both the
nonprofit sector, as well as accounting time in the for profit sector.
His nonprofit work includes positions at the American Red Cross and the
Hmong American Partnership. Rick is a graduate of the University of
Minnesota with a degree in Business Administration. In 2005, he became a
Certified Nonprofit Accounting Professional (CNAP.) His areas of
expertise include nonprofit tax preparation, Peachtree Accounting,
FundEZ Accounting, payroll services, accounting system conversions and

Judy Sharken Simon, Manager of Board and Volunteer Services
Judy is responsible for MAP's board training and recruitment programs,
and MAP's volunteer program. Prior to joining MAP, Judy served as a
senior consultant with the Community Services Group of the Amherst H.
Wilder Foundation for more than ten years. While there, she authored
"The Nonprofit Field Guide to Conducting Successful Focus Groups" as
well as "The Five Life Stages of the Nonprofit Organization." Judy has
a B.A. in Employee Relations from Michigan State University and an M.A.
in Organization Development from the University of Minnesota. She has
worked with nonprofit clients in areas of nonprofit organization
development, including board development, life stages work, and
strategic planning. In her work she has consulted with very small,
grassroots organizations, medium-sized social service agencies, and

Kathleen Alme, Manager of Technology Business Development and Technology
Circuit Rider
Kathleen Alme is providing technology and database planning and
technological support to MAP's nonprofit clients and is also the person
to speak with regarding contracting for technology services from MAP.
Kathy has more than 20 years of nonprofit management experience in a
variety of settings, including 10 years as the associate director of the
West Seventh Community Center. She is very familiar with the data
collection and reporting needs of nonprofits and enjoys helping
nonprofits use technology in ways that help them improve their client
services and be more efficient and effective in communicating with
clients, donors, funders and other stakeholders. Kathy is a graduate of
the University of Minnesota in Psychology with many graduate classes and
seminars on technology and other topics. She has a Mini MBA in Nonprofit
