Genesis II for Families is a private, comprehensive nonprofit human service agency whose mission is to support and empower women, children, and families to become responsible parents and members of our community. In a recent follow-up with Dan Ness, one of three candidates who joined Genesis's Board of Directors through MAP's recruitment service, we learned more about how his experience serving on the board has made an impact on him as well as on the organization. Dan Ness, a marketing communications consultant, was recruited by MAP for the Genesis II board, and officially joined as a board member earlier this year. MAP identified Dan as a strong candidate for this board because of his expertise in marketing/communications and his knowledge of the nonprofit sector, two skill sets the Board of Directors for Genesis II specifically sought in new recruits. Dan was particularly attracted to the opportunity because of his interest in the organization's mission. He was impressed with the comprehensive approach Genesis II takes to effectively address a complex set of social challenges. Rather than shy away from the complexity of challenges facing parents and families today, Genesis II tackles them head on, according to Dan. Though he has not been a member of Genesis's board for long, the experience has already proven to be gratifying for Dan. He commented that serving on their board has given him the opportunity to connect with the other board members, all talented, energetic professionals who are committed to the mission of the organization. The opportunity to watch Genesis clients successfully graduate from the program has also been extremely rewarding. In retrospect, Dan now recognizes that his knowledge of the nonprofit sector, particularly his understanding of the implications inherent in mission-driven work versus profit-driven work, was extremely valuable to have as he took on the role of board member. If you are interested in serving on a nonprofit board of directors, visit MAP's website for more information. Also consider registering for MAP's Board Boot Camp training to learn more about the roles and responsibilities of board members. MAP'S VOLUNTEER PROCESS: a brief reminder... Welcome to the new MAP for Nonprofits! 2.) New Opportunities to get involved including: *new board opportunities *new MAP job postings *new partnership with the YWCA of Minneapolis *new MAP Classes and Workshops __________________________________________ WELCOME TO THE NEW MAP FOR NONPROFITS! New Logo.... On Oct. 22, MAP for Nonprofits will launch a new logo in celebration of our 25th anniversary. The new logo is based on a compass rose and includes our new tagline, "Navigating for Excellence". The different patterns and colors in our logo demonstrate the diversity that makes our nonprofit community strong and represent the renewal that's occurring at MAP with our new mission, our new vision, our shortened name and more. New Mission, Vision and Values.... Our board adopted the following new mission and vision earlier this year: "MAP for Nonprofits provides critical management consulting services that significantly enhance the abilities of nonprofit organizations to increase their community impact. We envision healthy and vibrant communities in which effective and sustainable nonprofit organizations achieve their mission-driven results." In addition, MAP staff and board members are in the process of adopting new values statements and crafting our quality commitment to our nonprofit clients. "New" Name.... We're also trying to simplify the name game. In the past, we've used "The Management Assistance Program for Nonprofits," "MAP for Nonprofits" and "MAP." In the future, we plan to use MAP for Nonprofits as our name. Of course, we expect "MAP" to continue to be popular upon second reference. New Service Offerings.... As you may know, we've also recently reorganized our services. Our Strategic Services team tackles major initiatives in business planning, strategic planning, financial assessments, organization development, marketing and fundraising planning. Our Core Services team helps nonprofits with essential cost effective services like legal counsel, accounting, board recruitment and training, and technology services. As part of this reorganization, MAP is offering new services, like our financial assessments, and new service packages, like our new Nonprofit Foundation-Building Package. When we developed our new logo, we wanted something that would represent our expertise, our quality, our professionalism, our competence, our nonprofit friendliness and hospitality, our love of diversity and our desire to be relevant across the spectrum of nonprofits. We hope you agree that our new logo is representative of a "new" MAP for Nonprofits. Watch for its launch on October 22! NEW OPPORTUNITIES...
